Journeys like Caitlin’s fuel our commitment to empowering individuals. It fully celebrates our mission to help people overcome challenges, acquire essential skills, and pursue their dreams with newfound confidence by unlocking their full potential with the right support and opportunities.
When Caitlin commenced the Transition to Work program (TtW), she felt unprepared for the workforce, and her goals focused on improving her literacy and numeracy skills and obtaining her driver’s licence. Her coach identified her specific needs and connected her with tutoring services at the local library, which helped her gain confidence in her abilities. Caitlin received the necessary support through TtW to kick-start her journey to a brighter future, including our in-house Learner Licence Assistance Program (LLAP).
 
Caitlin then joined the Troublesmiths program (Workskills’ youth social enterprise – Find out more at www.troublesmiths.com.au) through a referral in March this year. Her commitment, reliability, and enthusiasm throughout the 8-week program made her stand out. During the course, Caitlin further enhanced her literacy skills by connecting with 26ten at the library and has also volunteered for events such as the Huonville Jobs Fair, Salamanca Market, and NAIDOC Week’s Deadly Choices Football Day. Her dedication did not go unnoticed, and she was invited back as a Troublesmiths leader for the June program.
 
Along this journey, Caitlin gathered the capability to recognise her dream of working in the community services sector, specifically aged care or disability services. She attended information sessions related to aged care and explored educational options. Her leadership experience with Troublesmiths was a stepping stone to her enrolment in the CERT III Individual Support course at Work & Training. Caitlin embraced the course, showcasing her confidence and building strong social networks. Her coach maintains regular contact with her for ongoing support and encouragement.
 
Caitlin also takes the time to return to Troublesmiths to share her progress, and she radiates confidence and improved communication skills whenever she walks in, making us all very proud of her.
