Last week, Our Relationship Manager – Lucas, Activity Manager – Tania, and Transition to Work Manager – Sophie represented us at the Multicultural Tasmania Employer Conference #MTEC2023, organised by the Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT). It was an exceptional event that brought together 130 delegates from Tasmania’s business sector to focus on the critical topic of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The conference showcased remarkable speakers who delivered a consistent message about the untapped potential of Tasmania’s multicultural workforce. It was inspiring to hear success stories and learn from businesses already making a positive impact in this space.
Our representatives were particularly impressed by the insights shared by Rufus Black and Swee-Hoon Chuah from University of Tasmania and Cecelia Catherine Loppy. Their presentations highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion and provided valuable guidance supporting workplace principles.
They were also inspired by Kelvin Smith from Integrate Workforce, who shared the incredible work they are doing to support individuals from refugee backgrounds in entering the workforce. The success story of Paw Nay, Integrate Workforce’s very first employee, purchasing land and building a new home is a testament to his resilience and determination to contribute despite numerous challenges. Our representatives also took part in a spaghetti tower activity, which reinforced the value of diverse perspectives and the significance of effective communication.
We extend our appreciation to MCOT for organising such a remarkable gathering, and agree that Lee Wilson, the CEO of MCOT, rightly emphasised the need to scale these initiatives across Tasmanian industries. By fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, we can create an environment where everyone can explore their fullest potential.
