Brenda’s Account of her Experience with Workskills Tasmania

“My name is Brenda. I’m 49 years old, and I would like to share my Workskills Tasmania journey with you.

After caring for my elderly mother for three years, it was time to re-enter the workforce, and to say I lacked self-confidence at this prospect is an understatement! I was literally terrified and thought, with my age, the time out of the workforce, and the intense anxiety I carried with me following my carer’s burnout…who would want to hire me?

I felt that I was in a horrible storm at sea, lost, alone, and afraid! That was until I saw a lighthouse…!

From my first meeting with Gilda at Workskills, I felt that she had confidence in me. She assisted me in tackling any obstacles that presented themselves. I am so grateful for her professional, tenacious, and caring approach to what she does.

Gilda suggested the place I now volunteer at, offered me assistance with an excellent psychologist, helped me choose appropriate clothing for job interviews, and made many job suggestions. She was ALWAYS warm and welcoming, even if I dropped into Workskills with an inquiry unannounced.

I am over the moon that I am now working casually in retail and have just been offered permanent/part-time, plus the small volunteer job that keeps me connected to my community.

Gilda and the team at Workskills genuinely guided and assisted me in all aspects of my job search journey, and I would like to say thank you!”

We’re so proud of Brenda’s account of her experience with our services and her coach, Gilda. We love what we do, and on days like this, we may love it a little too much.
